What is PayPal? PayPal acts as an intermediary that receives your donation then disburses that donation to Plowshares. PayPal enables any individual or business with an email address to securely, easily and quickly donate online. The required email address is part of the PayPal security and is used to confirm your donation. The service builds on the existing financial infrastructure of bank accounts and cards and utilizes the world's most advanced proprietary fraud prevention systems to create a safe, real-time payment solution. Founded in 1998 and acquired by eBay Inc. in October, 2002, PayPal has its home in San Jose, California.

Is PayPal safe to use? PayPal protects your card information with industry-leading security and fraud prevention systems. When you use PayPal, your financial information is never shared with Plowshares or any other business or individual.
PayPal automatically
encrypts your confidential information in transit from your computer to
theirs using the Secure Sockets Layer protocol (SSL) with an encryption
key length of 128 bits (the highest level commercially available).
Before you even register or log in to the PayPal site, the server checks that
you're using an approved browser - one that uses SSL 3.0 or higher.

Is there a charge for using PayPal? No. There is no charge to you for donating to Plowshares through PayPal. Plowshares pays a small service fee for each donation.

Do I have to create some type of banking account? No. A banking account is not required to use PayPal. If you choose to donate by credit card or debit card, you are not required to open a PayPal account. You are simply asked to identify the card that may used as the source of the donation. You will be given the option to have PayPal save this card information for future payments of any type. If you choose to donate by Direct Debit, you must create a PayPal account and you will be asked to identify your existing bank account that PayPal may debit in the amount of your donation. This bank and card information is kept private and secure by PayPal. No personal information is given to Plowshares or any other party. To read PayPal's privacy policy, click here.

What personal information do I have to provide to PayPal? To donate using a credit card or debit card, PayPal requires that you identify a valid card and that you provide the name and address of the card owner for verification. To donate using Direct Debit, PayPal requires that you identify the banking account that is to be debited for the donation. This personal information is not provided to Plowshares. The information is transmitted to PayPal over a secure internet link and is not released by PayPal. To read PayPal's privacy policy, click here.

What is Direct Debit? To make a donation by Direct Debit, you must have a PayPal account. PayPal debits the your bank account and transfers the amount of your donation to the Plowshares account. To donate by direct debit, you can use one of the Donation buttons at our site or you can login to your existing PayPal account, select the Send Money tab, and complete the required entries: enter plowshares@pacific.net, select "quasi-cash" and enter the amount of the donation. You can have an email message sent to Plowshares by completing the optional fields at the PayPal site or by completing the entries on our Thank You page when you return from PayPal. The transfer from your bank account can take three to four business days to complete.

One-time online cash donations. A one-time donation could be called a manual donation to distinguish it from automatic recurring donations. One-time online cash donations require donor action for each donation. Both types of donation can be made by direct debit, debit card or credit card. You may make a donation through a credit card or a debit card without opening a PayPal account. You simply click on the Donation button, answer a few questions to identify the card (over a secure connection) and the donation is complete. While at the PayPal site, you'll be given the option to have PayPal save the card information so that you won't be asked again on future uses. To make a Direct Debit donation, you must open a PayPal account and identify a bank account from which PayPal will order an electronic transfer in the amount of your donation. Most banks do not charge for this service. At the PayPal site, you can accept the default funding source offered by PayPal or click More Funding Options to select another source.
