Cash

Your generosity makes it possible for Plowshares to care for the hungry, the homeless and the disabled seniors we serve. Almost all of our income consists of cash or in-kind donations from caring people who want to help us help the less fortunate. This requires less paperwork and staff time compared to other funding sources, which allows us to spend each dollar most efficiently where it is most needed. For your convenience, there are several ways to make donations. All donations, large and small, are much appreciated, and all are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Donations may be made in honor of a loved one's special occasion, or in their memory; after completing your cash donation, you will have the opportunity to give us the name of the person(s) to be honored, and an address where we can send a card notifying them or their family of your donation.

Plowshares is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our federal nonprofit ID number (FEIN) is 68-0218781. Donations are fully tax-deductible as allowed by law.

                                         Your Time

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Plowshares--the "hands behind the plow." Each year, volunteers contribute almost half our budget in donated labor that makes it possible for our programs to take place. From Rotary Club and church members to our own homeless guests, volunteers enjoy helping Plowshares care for the neediest members of our community.

  • Cooks work one day a week or alternate weeks usually from 1:00 or 1:30 pm until about 3:30 pm.

  • Meal servers work one day a week or once a month from 5:15 pm to 6:30 pm.

  • Set-up and clean-up helpers work any amount of time between 2:00 pm and 7:15 pm.

  • Meals-on-Wheels drivers work one or more afternoons a week from about 3:30 to as late as 6:00.

  • Once a month around the 25th of each month, we have an afternoon newsletter-folding party.

Using the Internet

--- Donate Cash Using the Internet ---

Making a cash donation using the internet is easy.

Find out how.

--- Donate While Searching the Internet ---

Use GoodSearch to search the Internet and a cash donation will be given to Plowshares.

Anyone who does Internet searches, whether it's a few a month or a few an hour, can now generate donations of about a penny per search to Plowshares through www.GoodSearch.com, a Yahoo-based search engine that raises money for charities. You can even download a search toolbar for your Internet Explorer browser to make it easier. Pennies really do add up—so sign up, do your searches as usual, and help spread the word.

--- Donate While Shopping on the Internet ---

Use to start any online shopping experience and the merchants will donate a percentage of your purchases to Plowshares.

Many major online stores, discount travel sites, hotels, eBay, etc. will donate a sometimes substantial portion of your purchase amount to Plowshares if you start your shopping at www.GoodShop.com, and select Plowshares as your nonprofit of choice.  Thank you!

                                       Other Ways To Donate

  • Designate Plowshares to receive your United Way paycheck deduction.

  • Put a stamp on your newsletter reply envelope. This simple and convenient contribution provides hundreds of dollars per year refunded to us by the U.S. Postal Service.

  • Read our newsletter, the Plowshares Advocate, at this site instead of receiving it in hardcopy by mail. You'll receive notification via email when each new newsletter is available on our Newsletter page and you'll save us the paper and postage — just click here to give us your email address.

  • Cash donations are vital to our existence. Plowshares is community supported, which means that we operate with a minimum of paperwork but, also, that we rely almost entirely on the support you find in your heart to provide. No gift is too small and all gifts are tax-deductible. Click here to see how you can donate cash.

  • Think of Plowshares when you update your will. Bequests benefit your estate as well as Plowshares. Contact the Community Foundation of Mendocino County at 707-468-9882 for details.
